⚠️
"Joint Fire Control was alerted to the incident at 9.08am this morning. The road is expected to remain closed this morning, and drivers are urged to avoid the area for the time being."
Sussex Police say the collision involved a car and a tree.
It is understood the car left the road and struck the tree, rather than the tree having been brought down into the road by high winds overnight.
A spokesman for the force said: "Emergency services are dealing with a collision just north of the Buck Barn crossroads on the A24 Worthing Road.
"A car collided with a tree shortly before 9am on Thursday (March 11). A road closure is currently in place."
As of 11.10am, all fire crews had left the scene.
But the road remains closed with police still present at the crash site.
Update
The road is now reported to have been reopened.
