THERE are happy smiles all round in our Argus archive pictures today.
It was street party time in Guildford Street, Brighton, as residents celebrated the Queen’s coronation in 1953. The street was decked with flags and some turned out in fancy dress.
Our other pictures show children boarding a Brighton Corporation’s AEC bus in Queen’s Road, outside Brighton Station.
It was originally thought this might be a picture of evacuees but it was more likely to have been a day trip to Brighton for youngsters from the East End. Their clothes suggest it was late Forties or early Fifties.
