WHEN naming the best places in the world to watch the sunset, a few familiar names are likely to keep cropping up.
Perhaps predictably, the likes of Bora Bora, Florida, Alaska, Rio De Janeiro and The Isle of Skye all appear on American travel website Far and Wide's list of 25 global sunset watching hotspots, which was released this week.
However, among this esteemed company, a couple of seafront Sussex sites also receive the recognition they deserve. And they are not in Brighton.
A Far and Wide spokesman said: "The Crab Shack in Worthing has a beautiful outdoor terrace that spills directly out onto the beach.
"It's the perfect place to sip a pint or a glass of wine, while simultaneously drinking in the views."
He also recommended Billy's on the Beach in Bracklesham Bay, near Chichester, as the best restaurant to watch the sun set in the county, describing it as "casual, no frills and undeniably charming".
"Billy's on the Beach is the best place to tuck into crispy fish and chips while gazing out to sea," the company spokesman said.
Sussex as a whole was also recognised for its stunning sunsets.
The Far and Wide spokesman said: "The cliffs of Sussex's coastline make for a spectacular view out to sea, particularly at sunset when the sun's rays swirl into pinks and oranges.
"The white of the cliffs sets the canvas for a beautiful showing of colour.
"The cliffs between Seaford and Beachy Head offer the best coastal views at sunset."
While international readers may be surprised by the compliments lavished on the Sussex coast, the county's inclusion in the list will come as far less of a shock to people who live here.
Whether it's the murmurations of starlings flitting above Brighton Palace Pier or the white cliffs sitting behind Cuckmere Haven's coastguard cottages, there are plenty of jaw-dropping views to enjoy as the sun sets.
