THIS is how shopping in the centre of Brighton looked in the Thirties.
Our archive picture shows Western Road just above the Clock Tower and while most of the buildings on the right have since been demolished, the imposing rooftop at the bottom of the shot remains the same.
The bottom of West Street looked rather different too. This picture is dated around 1929 in the days when horses were more familiar than cars. Note the policeman on the little structure in the middle of the road.

We love the picture of youngsters outside St Andrew’s Church in Moulsecoomb some time around 1938.
We also have a shot of Mitre House opposite the top of Preston Street, Brighton, in about 1935. The site is now a Sainsbury’s.
