THE SISTER of a woman murdered by her husband says a family’s life has changed in a “brutal and horrific” way.
Jacqueline Hoadley, 58, was found dead at her home in Broad Oak Close, Eastbourne, last summer.
Her estranged husband Raymond Hoadley, 62, had broken into the £300,000 family home and attacked her as she slept.
His greed over their £1 million savings was one of the motives for the killing, as well as jealousy and rage, a court heard.
After being found guilty of murder, Hoadley was jailed for life.
Jacqueline Hoadley was a prominent disability rights campaigner. She was a former social worker and a loving mother of three adopted disabled children.
Her sister Sarah Jones gave a statement in court at the sentencing hearing.
She said: “July 5, 2020, changed our lives in the most brutal and horrific way.
“I don’t know if I will ever be able to trust anyone in life ever again. When I heard Raymond had been charged, I genuinely believed there had been an accident.
“But as the investigation progressed, I became acutely aware of the premeditation involved which both shocked and saddened me.
“Killing for financial gain is appalling and abhorrent, whatever the circumstances.”
Ms Jones said she was saddened by Hoadley’s apparent “lack of remorse” over the killing.
She said she used to joke about Hoadley being her favourite brother-in-law.
Her trust in people has been shaken.

But she paid tribute to her sister Jacqueline, who was a steadfast campaigner and trusted friend.
Ms Jones said: “Jackie’s death has left a huge void in my life and so many of her friends.
“So many people came forward about how she has helped them, inspired them, and given them genuine support over the years.
“That includes the parents of disabled children who throughout the lives of the children have had to fight to get the support they are entitled to.
“With experience as a social worker Jackie achieved so much for their cause. It will be an enormous loss to those who work for the disabled.”
She said the disabled children’s future has been “destroyed” by Hoadley, but says she wants Jackie’s life to remembered for how she lived.
Hoadley, of Willowfield Road, Eastbourne, was jailed for life.
He has lost his rights to claim the benefit of the savings he had racked up.
