IN THE nostalgia article in today's Argus, the photo of the "traffic jam in Old Steine 1938" is especially interesting.
Unless I'm very much mistaken, the car next to the bus on the right looks like an Austin A30 or A35 and in front of the bus a Morris Minor 1000.
Both these makes and models were manufactured after the Second World War.
The Morris Minor looks to have a one piece windscreen, the first model was manufactured with a two piece glass screen. If I'm correct with my identification of the cars in the photo then I would suggest it was taken more 1958 as opposed to 1938.
Maybe regular writer Ian Steedman, like me Brighton born and bred and being well versed with buses can pick up on something with all the buses in the photo.
One of the trolley buses, centre, has an advertising poster for what looks like the football pools - £75000 Vernons. Were the pools operating in 1938?
Maybe some eagle-eyed readers can verify my findings and spark off some more letters on the subject.
