A MAN was caught by police driving from London to visit Brighton Palace Pier.
Sussex Police said the 81-mile visit to the closed pier on Brighton seafront was one of many bizarre excuses for breaking lockdown over the past week.
The force also revealed that four people in a car travelled from London's Canary Wharf to Birling Gap to “go sightseeing”.
A sightseeing couple were also caught travelling to Brighton from Romford in Essex.
And two people, not from the same household, drove from Uckfield to Brighton Marina to go to McDonald’s “because they were hungry”.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Anyone who has been home schooling will no doubt enjoy not having lessons this week.
“But while pre-pandemic half term would have meant family time, seeing friends and trips out – this week is not that.
“And yet still people are trying their luck.
“We know people want to be off doing things, but the pandemic is still here.
“We all need to keep doing all we can to save lives and protect the NHS.”
