A POPULAR undercliff walking route remains closed for public safety after people were hit by falling debris.
Brighton and Hove City Council has temporarily closed the Undercliff Walk between Asda at Brighton Marina and Saltdean due to cliff erosion and has urged people to avoid the area.
The decision was taken to shut the section of the Undercliff Walk on Tuesday after members of the public reported a number of rockfalls, with some people being struck by the debris.

Sussex Police said no one who was hit reported needing medical attention.
Freezing temperatures can increase the risk of cliff erosion and falling debris, and the council said the path will be shut during this period of cold weather.
Fencing and warning signs have been put up and walkers are asked not to access the area due to the danger of cliff falls.

Daily inspections are taking place, while a specialist consultant will also carry out a visual survey to identify areas which may need additional work.

Council leader Phelim Mac Cafferty said: “We know this is a popular spot for people to walk and exercise, especially during a time of national lockdown, but public safety is our number one priority.
“Please take notice of the fencing and warning signs and do not walk along this part of the Undercliff until we are sure it is safe to do so.
“We are fortunate that our city offers so many great walking and cycling routes and I’d urge people to explore alternative options until we can safely reopen the Undercliff.”
