THIS picture of women at work in Brighton telephone exchange prompted lots of memories.
Many former employees, who were obviously there later than this 1920s scene, recalled what a strict regime it was but they all said it was a happy place.
For some time, women worked the day shifts and men worked nights.
Another picture of a man at work was initially a mystery but a little digging revealed all.
It shows modernisation of Brighton Aquarium – what a shame all that wonderful stonework was removed.
One of our other 1920s' pictures today show what was probably the Brighton Christmas Day swim - the current passion for sea swimming is obviously nothing new.
Then we have another mystery picture. These people crossing the road by Brighton Station look very affluent – note the women’s fabulous outfit. Unfortunately we don’t know anything more about them or why they were being photographed.
These pictures from The Argus archive have been colourised at www.spcolourcollection.com
