A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was attacked over the weekend.
A woman suffered serious injuries during after being attacked at a house in Littlehampton Road, Worthing, late on Saturday night.
Gary Mallon has been charged with attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
The 59-year-old appeared before magistrates in Worthing on Tuesday, where he was detained under Section 2 of the Mental Health Act.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "Police responded to a report of a woman being assaulted at a property in Littlehampton Road, Worthing at 11.45pm on Sunday, January 31.
"The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
"Gary Mallon, 59, of Littlehampton Road, Worthing has been charged with attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
"He appeared at Worthing Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, February 2, where he was detained under Section 2 of the Mental Health Act.
"Mallon is due at Lewes Crown Court on March 2."
