GEORGE Clooney has shown his support for Eddie Izzard's 31-day virtual marathon runs by donating £3,000 to help meet the fundraising target.

The Hollywood star joined Eddie virtually as she neared the end of the final double-marathon yesterday and counted down as she crossed the finish line.

The comedian, who grew up in Bexhill, has now raised more than £285,000 for numerous charities in her Make Humanity Great Again crowdfunding campaign to help people across the world, including many impacted by the pandemic.

Speaking to the comedian virtually while she was on the treadmill yesterday, George Clooney described Eddie's Run for Hope as "a beautiful thing".

He said: "It's a very difficult time to ask people to help, but people still want to help.

"I think what you're doing is a beautiful thing. So let's see if we can get well over the £250,000 mark."

The actor donated £3,000 to take Eddie up to her fundraising target of a quarter of £1 million.

He urged everyone to "hang tight" amid the pandemic and said: "Remember we're almost through this.

"Wear a mask and stay distanced - we're almost there."

The Ocean's Eleven star was among various celebrities who supported Eddie throughout the challenge.

Ewan McGregor also joined her virtually yesterday, while the comedian also received video calls from stars including radio DJ Chris Moyles, Dame Judi Dench, Joanna Lumley, Dawn French and SIr Michael Palin to offer encouragement throughout the month-long challenge.

Having completed 32 marathons, Eddie said: "This is a new era we're welcoming where we try to make humanity great again.

"I'm very honoured for you guys to have backed me.

"Thank you so much, above all, to the people have donated. Let's make the 21st century the coming of age of humanity.

"We should fight for a fair chance in life for everyone."
