THE fire service was called to help get a horse back on its hooves.
Sussex Equine Hospital enlisted the help of a Technical Rescue Unit (TRU) to help get Macho on all four legs for treatment.
The team effort in Pyecombe yesterday saw the animal lifted by a crane while four West Sussex Fire and Rescue (WSFRS) members helped with the horse’s support.
A spokesman for the service said: “Earlier today our TRU helped get Macho the horse back on his feet in Pyecombe.
“Standing at 16 hands, it was a team effort with the support from Sussex Equine Hospital.”
Pictures from the scene show a WSFRS team member comforting Macho, who was attached by a harness to the crane.
