THERE have been 487 new coronavirus cases recorded in Sussex in 24 hours.
The latest figures show significant increases in all areas of the county.
The greatest rise was reported in West Sussex, where there were 241 further cases confirmed in the 24 hours leading up to 9am today.
There have now been 34,584 positive tests in the area.
There were 190 more Covid-19 cases recorded in East Sussex and 56 in Brighton and Hove in the same time period, taking each area’s total number of positive tests to 27,053 and 12,694 respectively.
Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 20,088 over the period, to 3,689,746.
The Public Health England figures now include Pillar 2 tests – those carried out by commercial partners – alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the government’s mass testing programme.
Today, the number of deaths of people within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test passed 100,000.
There have now been 100,162 deaths since the virus first arrived in the country. This figure was reached following a further 1,631 recorded fatalities in the 24 hours leading up to 5pm yesterday.
