THE BOSS of Brighton and Hove Buses says he is "devastated" to learn a driver has died from coronavirus.
"Much loved" driver Christopher Turnham died on Wednesday after falling ill with Covid-19.
The 58-year-old was a popular figure who drove the 28 and 29 routes, working with the company for 17 years.
Brighton and Hove Buses’ managing director Martin Harris said Christopher was "well-respected", who worked for the company for years of "valued service".
He said: "So many people across the country have now been directly affected by Covid-19, including those in the bus industry who are doing the vital job of ensuring bus services can continue.
“We were devastated to learn that one of our dedicated colleagues has passed away and our deepest sympathies are with his family who we are in touch with at this very difficult time.
“Christopher Turnham was a well-respected colleague with 17 years of valued service to our customers, communities, and to his colleagues as a Unite representative and champion for LGBTQ+ communities. We all feel this very sad loss.
“The safety and wellbeing of all of our customers and colleagues, continues to be our highest priority at all times.” Christopher was also a longstanding Unite workplace representative "dedicated" to looking after his colleagues.
