A LINGERIE company has recorded a staggering increase in sales since the first coronavirus lockdown.
Brighton-based Pour Moi recorded a 70 per cent surge in active wear sales in 2020 and its underwear sales are already up 200 per cent on this time last year.
Founder and chief executive Michael Thomson said customers want to keep active, with people choosing to work out at home after Covid-19 forced gyms to close their doors.
He said: “For some people feeling different is vital to doing exercise. Putting on their active wear is almost like putting on their armour and feeling fabulous is always going to help and motivate you.
“It’s also so important to have a correctly fitted sports bra.”
The company, which was founded in 1996, has also experienced high demand for its lingerie and loungewear.
Michael said that in the first coronavirus lockdown, customers were searching for relaxed fitting nightwear, but the trend has now shifted towards lacy underwear in the build to Valentine’s Day.
He said: “Our lingerie is flying out. We had really, really lovely sales ever since lockdown.
“Our nightwear has done incredibly well because, of course, everyone is staying in.
“Now it seems to be much more about sexier styles, Christmas gifts and Valentine’s has started a lot earlier for us.I think it’s about people being inside together enjoying themselves.”
As a result of its success, Pour Moi has pledged to donate £50,000 to charities chosen by their customers.
The #GetYourWiggleOn campaign encourages customers to share a social media video of them being active and Pour Moi will donate £10 to their nominated charity.
Michael said: “All through last year I kept saying how grateful I was that the company was still around, and I wanted to do something big and give £50,000 to charity. Everyone can get involved, it’s everything from baking bread to hoovering to going out for a run to doing squats. It is basically anything and everything that gets those endorphins going and gets you smiling.
“It’s all about getting people moving, dancing around, jumping up and down or doing your Joe Wicks exercises.”
