THE latest figures show Sussex hospital sites recorded 63 deaths of patients with Covid-19 in 24 hours.
The data comes from hospital trusts across the county and covers the period leading up to 5pm yesterday.
The victims were among 8,066 deaths recorded across the South East.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.
This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.

NHS England guidance states: "Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."
Only deaths that occur in hospitals where the patient has tested positive for Covid-19 are recorded, with deaths in the community excluded, such as those in care homes.
These are the Sussex hospital trusts to record a 24-hour increase in the number of deaths of patients with Covid-19:
1. Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust
NHS England figures show 316 people had died in hospital at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust as of 5pm on Tuesday (January 19).
That was an increase of 10 compared to Monday, when there were 306.
It means there have been 35 deaths in the past week, up from 34 the previous week.
The Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust operates the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.
2. East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust
NHS England figures show 436 people had died in hospital at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust as of 5pm on Tuesday (January 19).
That was an increase of 23 compared to Monday, when there were 413.
It means there have been 84 deaths in the past week, up from 74 the previous week.
The East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust operates Conquest Hospital in St Leonards, Eastbourne District General Hospital, Bexhill Hospital, and Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital.
3. Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
NHS England figures show 289 people had died in hospital at Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as of 5pm on Tuesday (January 19).
That was an increase of 27 compared to Monday, when there were 262.
It means there have been 57 deaths in the past week, up from 56 the previous week.
The Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust operates St Richard's Hospital in Chichester, Worthing Hospital and Southlands Hospital in Shoreham.
4. Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust
NHS England figures show 38 people had died in hospital at Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust as of 5pm on Tuesday (January 19).
That was an increase of three compared to Monday, when there were 35.
It means there have been nine deaths in the past week, up from four the previous week.
