SHOCKED onlookers reported seeing green flickering lights on the horizon above Ringmer last night.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has now explained that the unusual sight came as a result of an incident at a substation in the area shortly before 6pm.
Sussex Police also attended the site and closed a nearby road as fire crews worked at the scene.

A fire service spokeswoman said: "At 5.56pm we were called to attend a power substation in Ringmer.
"Crews from Barcombe and Lewes attended.
"Sussex Police assisted in closing a nearby road.
"The incident was handed over to UK Power Network."
A UK Power Network spokeswoman said "there was no fire".
She said: "A fault on a piece of equipment at our substation in Ringmer resulted in electrical arcing, reported to us at 6.05pm last night.
"The equipment was isolated for repairs at 6.49pm and there was no interruption to power supplies."
