ALMOST 4,000 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed across Sussex over the weekend.
According to the latest figures from Public Health England, 3,984 cases were reported across Brighton and Hove and East and West Sussex.
In Brighton and Hove, 807 new cases were recorded over the two days since Friday, when 338 new cases were reported.
This brings the city’s total to 10,135 cases since the pandemic began.
East Sussex saw the number of new cases rise by 1,362 over the two days.
They went up by 669 cases on Friday.
It means 20,958 people have tested positive in the county since Covid-19 hit.
The greatest increase in case numbers was in West Sussex, where 1,815 new cases were recorded.
A total of 884 new cases had been recorded on Friday.
So far, 26,067 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the county.
Across the UK there were 54,940 more cases confirmed, bringing the total figure to 3,072,349, since the pandemic began.
Nationally there were 563 more deaths, where people have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19.
It brings the UK death toll to 81,431 people.
