A ROAD has been closed by police after a crash "involving a car and a motorbike".
The two vehicles collided on the A26 north of Lewes at about 7am this morning.
Lewes Police have confirmed that the road has been closed as a result of the crash, and officers are urging drivers to avoid the area.
A spokesman for the force said: "Following an accident this morning, the A26 Ringmer between Ham Lane and Clayhill Service Station is currently closed.
"Officers are at the scene. If you are travelling this stretch please use an alternative route to avoid delays and congestion."
The road was reopened shortly before 8.30am.
Sussex Police have now issued a statement on the crash.
A spokesman said: "A motorcyclist was seriously injured when his vehicle was in a collision with a car on the A26 at Ringmer this morning.
"The collision happened shortly after 7am near the junction with Ham Lane, between Lewes and Clayhill, resulting in the closure of the road while the incident was dealt with. The road was reopened at 8.20am.
"Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to report online or call 101 quoting serial 168 of 07/01."
