SEVERAL areas of Sussex have weekly Covid-19 rates of more than 800 new cases per 100,000 people, the latest figures show.
These were released on the day that Boris Johnson announced England would be entering a third national lockdown in an attempt to stop the spread of a new, more transmissive strain of the disease.

The area in Sussex with the highest weekly Covid-19 rate in the most recent complete figures (covering the seven days leading up to December 30) was Yapton and Climping.
There were 91 new cases confirmed in the area, giving it a rate of 1,389.7 per 100,000 people.
There was only one area of Brighton and Hove with a weekly rate of more than 800.

This was Patcham East, where 68 new cases meant the area had a weekly rate of 865.8 cases per 100,000 population.
There were also notable increases in the Crawley area, with the weekly rates in Pound Hill, Three Bridges, Langley Green and Gatwick Airport, Ewhurst and West Green, Ifield and Gossops Green, Bewbush, Broadfield West and Tilgate all rising to more than 800 new cases per 100,000 population.
These are the areas of Sussex with the highest Covid-19 rates in the week leading up to December 30:
- Yapton and Climping: 91 new cases giving a rate of 1,389.7 cases per 100,000 people
- West St Leonards: 139 new cases giving a rate of 1,270.1 cases per 100,000 people
- Ashdown: 103 new cases giving a rate of 1,207.6 cases per 100,000 people
- Bexhill North and Sidley: 105 new cases giving a rate of 1,085.9 cases per 100,000 people
- Pound Hill: 92 new cases giving a rate of 1,029.9 cases per 100,000 people
- Peacehaven East: 80 new cases giving a rate of 1,021.6 cases per 100,000 people
- Broadfield West: 82 new cases giving a rate of 1,016.5 cases per 100,000 people
- Three Bridges: 76 new cases giving a rate of 940.4 cases per 100,000 people
- Heathfield: 75 new cases giving a rate of 919.1 cases per 100,000 people
- Roselands: 79 new cases giving a rate of 881.6 cases per 100,000 people
- Central St Leonards: 76 new cases giving a rate of 866.8 cases per 100,000 people
- Patcham East: 68 new cases giving a rate of 865.8 cases per 100,000 people
- Bexhill Central: 83 new cases giving a rate of 860.9 cases per 100,000 people
- Ewhurst and Chiddingfold: 69 new cases giving a rate of 850.2 cases per 100,000 people
- Upperton: 59 new cases giving a rate of 845.4 cases per 100,000 people
- Langley Green and Gatwick Airport: 73 new cases giving a rate of 842.5 cases per 100,000 people
- East Saltdean and Telscombe Cliffs: 66 new cases giving a rate of 838.1 cases per 100,000 people
- Wick and Toddington: 88 new cases giving a rate of 826.8 cases per 100,000 people
- Ifield and Gossops Green: 68 new cases giving a rate of 826.1 cases per 100,000 people
- Bewbush: 63 new cases giving a rate of 819.6 cases per 100,000 people
- Tilgate: 63 new cases giving a rate of 817.3 cases per 100,000 people
- East Grinstead East: 70 new cases giving a rate of 815.0 cases per 100,000 people
- Hampden Park Noth: 64 new cases giving a rate of 814.2 cases per 100,000 people
- Hailsham East: 50 new cases giving a rate of 813.0 cases per 100,000 people
- Hollington: 65 new cases giving a rate of 811.6 cases per 100,000 people
- Ewhurst and West Green: 69 new cases giving a rate of 811.6 cases per 100,000 people
- Manor Royal and Northgate: 91 new cases giving a rate of 800.7 cases per 100,000 people
The data shown relates to the seven-day period leading up to Christmas day, and the weekly Covid rates are expressed as the number of recorded cases per 100,000 population.

Areas are split into Middle Layer Super Output Areas (MSOA) - a geographic hierarchy designed to improve the reporting of small area statistics in England and Wales, with each area having a minimum population of 5,000 and a maximum population of 7,200.
The map, made using figures from Public Health England, found that ten MSOA in Sussex had a weekly Covid rate of more than 800 new cases per 100,000 population in the week leading up to December 30.
