TODAY we have reported on how Sussex has been ranked as one of the best counties for a “staycation”.
In a year where we have effectively been confined to this country, could taking our holidays here actually have greater benefits?
Many of our readers may remember days of the glorious British seaside which was the only option for families seeking to let their hair down and get away from it all.
Perhaps then our experience of three coronavirus lockdowns in the space of less than 12 months has taught us to appreciate what is on our doorstep.
In a time when our economy will need a kick-start, staying for a holiday here in Sussex will help create jobs and wealth.
The travel industry and coronavirus situation around the world may still be very uncertain for a while yet.
While by no means should we frown on people looking to jet off to sunny climes, the more conscious of us will be aware that jet travel has contributed towards climate change which is causing droughts, floods and extreme chaos that hits the poorest in the world the hardest.
Strangely, our recent summers have probably benefited from that climate change, with nice hot sunny days through summer.
So why not stay in Sussex for a holiday this year? Who knows you may find lots to enjoy.
