A SEAFRONT bar’s Covid-safe igloos will be permanently shutting due to Tier 4 restrictions.
Rockwater Hove is now selling its seafront igloos after new coronavirus regulations caused them to close.
People can buy one of the structures, which come with six chairs, sheepskin rugs, a hanging floral display and fairy lights for £1,300.
The 30 igloos were opened in November and cost about £160,000.
A spokesman for Rockwater said: “With the latest move into lockdown as a result of Tier 4, we have taken the difficult decision to shut our igloo village permanently.
“It is a real shame and we don’t want our beautiful igloos to go to waste! Each is priced at £1,300 and comes with table, six chairs, six beautiful sheepskin rugs, hanging floral display and fairy lights.
The igloos were intended to allow customers to eat and drink in line with Covid restrictions.
But their opening was marred by the announcement of the November lockdown.
Just as customers began to fill up the new "Covid-secure" pods with heaters and speakers for the first time, news began to filter through that the country was due to go back into a lockdown.
At the time, owner Luke Davis said: "I've been constantly changing the business to work within the legislation.
"It's an absolute shame, for the people who have worked hard to comply with the rules, to have the rulebook changed and be told there's another lockdown.
"I bought a pub, then it became illegal to go into a pub. I've made the igloos and now they're going to be illegal too.
"We will get there eventually."
The permanent closure comes just days after some of the igloos were destroyed during Storm Bella.
Some of the outdoor dining pods was pictured damaged in the storm that caused havoc across the city over the weekend.
Last week, The Argus was given a first look inside the £4 million transformation of the main building.
The venue, formerly called The View, was stripped back to bricks after being taken over by owner Luke Davis.
Now, his rooftop “coffee and cocktails” vision for the site – more than two years in the making – is finally a reality.
