PART of the A27 is closed after a large crash involving a lorry and several cars.

Police, fire and ambulance crews are currently working at the scene of the collision at Shoreham.

There is slow traffic in the area as a result.

A Sussex Roads Police spokesman said: "We’re on the scene at a road traffic collision on the westbound carriageway of the A27 at Shoreham.

"Multiple road closures are in place including the westbound carriageway of the A27 between Portslade and Lancing.

"Please avoid the area as traffic is queuing."

Fire crews are also in attendance.

A West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Crews are at the scene of an accident involving a lorry and several cars, westbound on the A27 near the entrance to Shoreham Airport.

"If possible, please avoid the area and take a different route as traffic is building.

"Police and SECAmb also attending."

An AA traffic report is warning of delays in the area as a result of the collision.

An AA spokesman said: "The road is closed and there is queueing traffic due to a multi-vehicle accident on the A27 Old Shoreham Road westbound from the A283 Steyning Road (at the Steyning turn off) to the A2025 Grinstead Lane (at the Sompting Roundabout).

"There is congestionstretching to the Holmbush turn-off. Traffic is also heavy in Old Shoreham Road."
