A SUICIDAL woman was saved from the water after wading into the sea late at night.

Brighton Beach Patrol officers spotted the woman at about 10pm yesterday and went to her aid.

In a statement on social media, the team said: "Another life saved. A female wanted to end her life and was spotted by Beach Patrol.

"(We) engaged with her and got her out of the water, and now in safe hands. Another successful night."

Brighton Beach Patrol was set up in 2015 as a response to concerns for people's safety along the Brighton shoreline.

The charity organisation was given authorisation to patrol between the Brighton Pier and the i360 using a quad bike through Friday and Saturday nights.

It initially set out to stop drunk people entering the sea, but has since expanded to other areas.

A spokesman for Brighton Beach Patrol said: "Within the first year we had reduced not only drownings, but sexual assaults, suicides, physical assaults and beach fires.

"We soon gained a reputation with local businesses and residents as a point of call to report concerns for people near the water's edge or in distress on the promenade."

The charity organisation relies on donations to contnue to operate and maintain its quad bike.

A GoFundMe page called Brighton Beach Patrol has been set up to allow people to support the team's efforts.
