HUNGRY I’m A Celebrity stars will given the chance to tuck into award-winning pies after their ordeal in chilly North Wales.
Turner’s Pies, founded in Bognor, is sending its much-loved pastries to this year’s campmates as the hit ITV show comes to a close.
The series, which is usually filmed in Australia, has this year taken place in a castle in the Welsh town of Abergele due to coronavirus travel restrictions.
As a result the family-run bakery has seized the opportunity to send its savoury treats to Wales via its Pies By Post service.
Phil Turner, managing director, said: “We love the show and we have always spoken about how much the celebrities go through because of the hunger they endure.
“Surely the best way to celebrate coming out of the castle is to tuck into some of the best pies in the country.”
The bakery scooped the top award at the British Pie Awards for the second time this year when its rump steak and stilton pie beat off competition from nearly 850 others.
Phil hopes that the treats will provide the celebrities with the home comforts they have been missing.
Phil said: “Ant and Dec must love their pies and there are no better pies in the country so we hope they enjoy our Pies By Post service.
“The service delivers throughout the United Kingdom and so arranging a delivery was very straightforward.
“Hopefully the pies reach the stars and they can taste for themselves the amazing products we make.”
Turner’s award-winning delicacies could not be further removed from some of the dreadful dishes the celebrities have been feasting on for the past three weeks.
During one of the show’s eating trials, TV presenter Vernon Kay tucked into a lamb rank, better known as sheep’s brain, served with a side order of deer’s testicle and cow’s teat.
BBC Radio One DJ Jordan North was served goat’s eye, followed by a main course of fermented catfish and a dessert of sheep’s penis.
The celebrities will be pleased to know that Turner’s uses more traditional ingredients, with cheese fillings always proving to be a favourite.
British Pie Awards organiser Dr Matthew O’Callaghan, speaking of the winning entry in the British Pie Awards earlier this year, said: “Turner’s Pies certainly know how to make an excellent pie.
“They won Supreme Champion in 2018 with their steak and ale pie and they’ve done it again, but this time with Stilton cheese.
“Cheese in pies was a winning formula this year, appearing in five winning classes.
“Besides winning the Supreme Champion, or ‘Pie of Pies’ title, Turner’s also won three highly commended awards, three golds, four silvers and two bronzes.
“With their record, they are indisputably Britain’s Best Pie Maker.”
The final of I’m a Celebrity 2020 will air tonight at 9pm on ITV.
This year’s line-up included EastEnders star Shane Richie, Olympic gold medallist Sir Mo Farah, BBC Journalist Victoria Derbyshire and former Strictly Come Dancing professional, AJ Pritchard.
The bookies have tipped radio DJ Jordan North the most likely winner of series 20.
