RUBBISH tips are to remain open during the lockdown with restrictions in place to allow for social distancing.

The waste and recycling sites in Old Shoreham Road, Hove, and off Wilson Road in Brighton are open every day of the week but vans can only access the Hove site on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Brighton and Hove City Council said demand remains high at both sites and is urging the public to comply with safety measures to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

Drivers are asked to queue on the smaller access roads leading to the tips only and not on the major approach roads.

Trailers are still not accepted, to allow for social distancing when parking.

East Sussex County Council said the ten household waste recycling sites in the county will also remain open at normal times during the lockdown.

Drivers must only park in every other bay, so queues are expected.

Residents are asked not to take additional people with them if possible, but be aware that staff are unable to assist with unloading at present.

Tips will also remain open across West Sussex for vehicles, but residents are not permitted to walk into the sites with any recycling or waste.

The council is encouraging people to visit only if absolutely necessary.
