US PRESIDENTIAL candidate Joe Biden’s family tree has roots in Sussex.
The great-great-great grandfather of Presidential hopeful, Joe Biden, was born in Sussex.
William Biden was born in 1787 to Joe and Anne Biden.
While the exact location of his birth has never been confirmed, a diary entry from a distant relative, Henry Biden, born in 1834, suggest the family had roots in Westbourne, near Chichester.
In 1822, William Biden married Mary Elkins after emigrating to Baltimore in Maryland, United States of America.
The third great-grandfather of the former Vice President remained in Baltimore until he died in 1849 at the age of 61.
The Democrat candidate’s maternal great-grandfather, Edward Francis Blewitt, the child of Irish immigrants, was a member of the Pennsylvania state senate.
The Biden family later relocated to Pennsylvania where Joe, was born in 1942.
Biden has been involved in US politics since the 1970’s, serving as United States Senator for Delaware in 1973.
In 2009, Biden served as the 47th Vice-President under President Obama until 2017.
The 77-year-old is now the Democratic Party nominee in the US Presidential election.
Millions of Americans will today cast ballots to decide whether President Donald Trump will get another four-year term as President.
Biden is currently ahead of Trump in the national polls.
In the battleground states, including Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, polls are currently indicating that Biden has a slim lead.
A huge turnout is expected as early voting figures are far higher than in 2016.
More than 90 million Americans have voted early in the presidential election, the latest data shows.
The polls begin to close at around midnight UK time.
