THE body of a man has been recovered from the scene of a fire at a storage facility, police have confirmed.
The death is currently being treated as unexplained following the incident at Littlehampton Marina shortly after 1pm yesterday.
Smoke billowed from the building at the height of the blaze, with crews from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service rushing to the scene.
In a statement, the service described the incident as a "small fire" and said that had been able to extinguish the flames by 3pm.
But police officers remained at the scene into the evening and cordoned off the site.
Yesterday, the force confirmed an investigation had been launched into the fire.
Forensics teams were seen working within the taped off area at the storage facility this morning.
Today, Sussex Police provided an update.
A spokesman said: "We can now confirm a man’s body was sadly recovered following a fire at a storage facility in Ferry Road, Littlehampton, yesterday afternoon.
"His next of kin have been informed, and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
"The death is being treated as unexplained at this stage, and we’re urging anyone with any information to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 535 of 22/10."
