A “BRIGHT and cheerful” care home resident has celebrated his 100th birthday.
Donald Greenwood was treated to a socially distant birthday party with residents and members of the care team at The Polegate care home near Eastbourne
Staff presented the centenarian with balloons, deliveries of presents and a large birthday cake.
Donald’s daughter Linda also paid him a visit in the garden and showed him video messages from other family members who could not be there to celebrate amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Donald was delighted to receive his special card and message from the Queen.
He said: “Thank you all so much.
“I am so touched.
“I have had a lovely day and have been sent lovely things.”
Emma Louise Rich-Spice said: “A huge happy birthday to our Donald.
“Donald is a bright, cheerful gentleman and it’s such a pleasure to celebrate with him.”
The Polegate care home is run by care company HC-One.
Its regional managing director, James Ilesanmi, said: “Donald’s birthday celebrations sound great.
“Organising memorable events like this is an important part of how we provides the kindest care.”
The care company has recently celebrated achieving a 9.5 average rating on care home comparison website carehome.co.uk.
