A RESTAURANT owner says his business faces closure if a proposal to build an 5G phone mast outside his window goes ahead.
Hutchison 3G UK Ltd has submitted an application to build an 18-metre 5G mast – along with two giant cabinets – directly outside of the Colosseo Italian in Boundary Road, Hove.
Vasisia Sejdini, who opened the restaurant in February, said the proposals will “destroy” the business if it is given permission to go ahead.
He said: “We have had all this stress trying to build up the business in tough times and then this happens.
“This is like constructing another building in front of somebody’s window.
“Come on, this just should not be happening.”
The proposal includes plans for a 18-metre high telecommunications monopole and two cabinets on the pavement outside Mr Sejdinis’ business.
The restaurant owner said it could spell the end to his restaurant – which has reduced capacity due to social distancing guidelines.
Mr Sejdini said he was unaware the proposals had even been submitted as the documents with details of the plans were stuck up on the other side of the road.
“I didn’t have a scooby dooby clue,” he said.
“It wasn’t until Robert Nemeth (ward councillor) popped in and told me.
“We are looking a situation where someone is going to put something gigantic right in front of our property.
“I completely object to this.”
Conservative councillor Mr Nemeth, who represents the area with Garry Peltzer Dunn, is calling on residents to oppose the scheme.
He said: “To site two huge cabinets and a massive mast right beside customers who are dining outside makes you wonder just who comes up with these things.
“It’s fortunate that Cllr Peltzer Dunn and I noticed or it might have just gone through unopposed.
Ridiculous
“We strongly encourage residents and traders to join us in fighting this ridiculous proposal.”
Brighton and Hove City Council said: “This is not a council proposal.
“We have received a planning application from Hutchison 3G UK Ltd which must go through the planning process in the same way every application does.
“We therefore cannot pre-judge or comment on the outcome until the process is completed.”
