A “DESPICABLE” woman spat at police and threatened to infect them at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.
Lisa Scopes abused the officers who were called to an address in Wick near Littlehampton.
There were reports of a violent row, and when they arrived, Scopes was drunk.
She was abusive and threatening and repeatedly coughed at police.
After she was arrested and taken to custody, she again continued to make Covid-19 threats and told officers she hoped they would get the virus.
She had been self-isolating and had a temperature, leaving two officers in fear.
At Lewes Crown Court Scopes admitted threatening behaviour and assaulting two police officers.
The court was told the incident happened on March 29, just days after the country had gone into full lockdown. In the end neither she nor the police tested positive for the virus.
Scopes, of West Way, Wick, was jailed for six months.
Chief Inspector Jon Carter said: “Whatever the circumstances, being assaulted is not part of our officers’ jobs and will not be tolerated.
“In this case the officers were simply trying to help her in a volatile situation and also to ensure that several children were kept safe.
“Scopes’ actions in threatening the officers and attempting to infect them were despicable and it is good to note that the court has clearly reflected that view.”
