YOUR report "A challenge to keep homeless off the streets" (16th June 2020) highlights the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to prevent a return to rough sleeping for those who have been accommodated during the pandemic.
This will need government support and co-operation from neighbouring authorities so that the full burden does not fall upon the Brighton and Hove alone.
The report was wrong, however, in saying that those with addictions in Brighton "have no access to residential rehabilitation places as the service that had been in use locally closed its doors during the pandemic".
Other services might have closed but Brighton Housing Trust's Addiction Services has continued to operate throughout the pandemic and has been accepting new residents throughout. This service continues to be one of the most effective alcohol and drug rehabilitation services in the country.
I would hate to think that there was a perception that this precious resource was not available to people locally, not least to those who might return to the streets and chaotic using.
