SHOCKED residents reported feeling a tremor coming from beneath their feet.
Police and fire crews are currently at the scene in Perrymount Road, Haywards Heath, after the vibration caused damage to pavements in the area.
Inspector Darren Taylor, a prevention inspector for Mid Sussex Police,shared the news on social media.
He said: "A Mid Sussex Team is attending the area of Budgens in Perrymount Roadd, Haywards Heath.
"(There have been) reports from the public of some sort of tremor under the ground, involving pavement damage and a manhole cover coming off.
"Colleagues from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted and also utility companies have been informed."
A spokesman for WSFRS confirmed a crew had attended the scene.
He said: "We were called to Perrymount Road in Haywards Heath at 1.39pm.
"One fire engine from Haywards Heath Fire Station was mobilised.
"Upon arrival, the crew found that an underground cable had blown and requested the attendance of UK Power Networks."
