A TEXTILE designer is hoping to run sustainable weaving workshops in schools and with mental health charities.
Siobhan Martin launched Shiv Textiles at the Rodhus Creative Studio in Hollingdean Road, Brighton, in 2018 after graduating
from the University of Brighton.
Inspired by the wasted materials she saw while working as an intern, Siobhan set up a textiles studio specialising in using materials ethically and running courses so others can also reduce waste.
She said: “I saw the amount of waste that was left behind and knew I had to start designing in a different way.
“I started contacting British mills and factories and buying their deadstock.
“I would like to engage more with the local community by running external workshops in places such as schools and mental health facilities.
“The focus would be to educate and explore the positive effect crafts could have on people’s mental wellbeing.
“Equally, engagement in the workshops would create a greater sense of unity between the members taking part.”
Siobhan is running a Crowdfunding campaign to try and get her classes running. To support the campaign visit https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/shiv-textiles---sustainable-textiles-from-brighton.
