AN ENERGY co-operative has raised £1million in investment.

Since its first public share offer in June 2015, Brighton and Hove Energy Services Co-op (BHESCo) has raised £1 million of finance from community investors.

All funds raised are directed towards low carbon energy projects in Sussex, which are developed at no upfront cost to BHESCo’s project customers. In the last five years BHESCo has completed work on 50 energy projects including schools and colleges, an indoor bowls green, community centre and a church.

BHESCo chief executive and founder Kayla Ente said: “BHESCo has 300 members who have expressed their confidence in investing their hard-earned money into clean, local energy projects.

“Added together our projects will save local residents and businesses nearly £2 million over the next 20 years, in addition to reducing CO2 emissions in the city by 5,367 tonnes – equivalent to taking over 1,000 cars off the road. “
