CLIMATE campaigners have urged “people of goodwill” not to have sex with councillors.
Divest East Sussex has called a “sex strike” until East Sussex County Council ditches its pension fund’s £175 million of investments in fossil fuel firms.
On Monday the group will call on people to not have sex with any of the 50 county councillors.
Campaigners will perform an extract from the ancient Greek play Lysistrata, in which ancient Greek women used a sex strike to end the war between Athens and Sparta.
A group spokesman said: “Sex strikes have helped to win campaigns for peace and justice.
“We urge all those concerned about climate change to join this strike.”
But an East Sussex County Council spokeswoman said ending its fossil fuel investments could put its financial security at risk.
“Only four per cent of the fund is directly involved in fossil fuel investment,” she said.
