A COUNCIL plans to pump millions of pounds into a park.
Adur and Worthing Councils has now released images of the proposed transformation of Brooklands Park.
The updated plans for the Worthing area now include a visitor hub, cafe, adventure play area and a “contemplative garden” among other new features.
Conservative Worthing Councillor Edward Crouch, executive member for digital and environmental services, said: “I think these plans are fantastic.
“We said we would deliver something magnificent for Brooklands, to bring it back to a real destination location.
“The plans allow people, young and old, to have great fun in the park but also learn about nature and find quiet spaces to relax.
“I believe Brooklands will be returned to a jewel in the crown landmark for Worthing.”
A total of £3million has been set aside for the next stage of development, with Worthing Borough Council currently being advised to approve £2.35m extra funding to “bring the the vision to reality”. A council spokesman said “borrowing will make up most of the sum”.
The original plan for the redevelopment of Brooklands stated that it should be a “science nature park”.
The updated plans will add an outdoor space for sports such as football and Frisbee, an accessible pathway around the lake and a 2.5km fitness trail.
There will also be a mount celebrating the highest point of the park.
A council spokesman said: “The council has already funded the dredging and environmental enhancement of the lake, which was completed in 2018, as well as the Valley Gardens section of Teville Stream.
“Now a more technical design, by Turkington Martin Landscape Architects, is to be drawn up ahead of inviting companies to bid for the construction phase.
“The cafe and two pieces of play equipment above 4m have already been submitted for planning approval.
“It is hoped construction can be underway by this year.”
