TRIBUTES have been paid to a young woman who used to live in a tent in a graveyard who has died suddenly.
Paige Greenaway featured in a BBC documentary about living on the streets of Brighton and Hove in 2017 – she was then just 21.
Brighton homeless campaigner Jim Deans paid tribute to her, saying: “This little girl was too young to leave us, but I hope you have some peace.”
Clare Kennedy who runs Kennedy Street Community Interest Company which helps people suffering with addictions, said: “So sad to hear this news. Paige was a beautiful soul, I know very many individuals tried to help her.
“This morning I’m sending a heart full of love to her family and all those friends whose lives she touched.”
In the documentary, filmed for BBC Three and called Love And Drugs On The Street, Paige was seen sleeping in the tent in the graveyard at St Nicholas Church, in Dyke Road, Brighton.
Speaking about it she said: “It’s not that bad. Quiet enough for me, pitch black and I have my own space
“I would rather just stay hidden.
During filming she was found a bed in a hostel in Newhaven, then moved back to Hove.
She spoke about joining addiction support groups Narcotics Anonymous and Cocaine Anonymous.
Last month Paige told friends on Facebook she was suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and depression.
Paying tribute to Paige online, friends said she had turned her life around since the documentary was filmed.
Nicola Brady said: “She was my best friend, she worked so hard to get off the streets and better herself
“She had a heart of gold, wouldn’t hurt a fly.
“The amount of bad things that happened to her on the streets is just unimaginable.
“All she wanted was a home – something needs to change
“I love you Paige and I miss your voice, heartbroken.
Jem Hannam said: “I knew Paige years ago, I used to teach her music. Heartbreaking news.”
Bernadette Bonnici Drew said: “It’s not right , there has to be better care for women who are homeless.
“Paige was always caring and a friend with my daughter. How did she slip through the net?
“I really thought her life was on track.”
Nico Preston said: “She was such a lovely lady who had so much going for her. So sad to hear this news.”
Andrew Sanguy said: “RIP Paige you will be sadly missed
“Heaven has a new angel. Never forget you mate.”
Piper Debs said: “I’ve known Paige since she was a young child, absolutely devastated to hear this.”
