A LORRY driver who tried to smuggle people into the UK has been jailed.
Constantin Mocanu was stopped by the border officials at Newhaven port.
The 55-year-old, pictured, was trying to bring eight Vietnamese nationals into the country illegally.
His lorry was searched and the people inside were found. It sparked an investigation by the Immigration Enforcement’s Criminal and Financial Investigations (CFI) team.
At Hove Crown Court Mocanu, a Romanian national of no fixed address, admitted two counts of breaching UK immigration law.
He was jailed for a total of three years and seven months.
