Six months and we’ll be done with this mess

They’ve lied before, and they’ll lie again, on Brexit, our hospitals, and everything else.

And of course I’m biased here, but I do genuinely believe this – only Labour will stick up for working people with promises we’re going to keep.

Let’s start with Brexit.

The biggest lie that the Tories are telling us on Brexit is that their deal will “get Brexit done”. A total lie.

Johnson’s deal says in black and white we’ll be negotiating with the EU until the end of 2020.

And that’s not even the worst of it.

That timeframe can be extended, meaning that the Tories can break their deadline on Brexit again.

They broke it once for March 31, again for October 31 and you can bet your bottom dollar they’ll break it again at the end of December 2020.

What’s more, Johnson knows he’ll have to break it.

Trade deals – which is what the extra time is for – take about seven years to negotiate.

Johnson’s lying to you – his slogan should be “Get Brexit Done (in ten years)”.

By contrast, Labour’s plan will happen quickly.

Negotiate an off-the-shelf deal with the EU within three months, then ask you what you think of it in a public vote within another three months.

Six months and we will be done with this mess, and you will have actually have had a say on it as opposed to just having it dictated to you by Westminster politicians.

Johnson’s lies on Brexit don’t stop here, though.

He says that his awful Brexit deal will be the start of Britain getting richer.

This is just another Tory lie.

Statistics from his own Government, which he will have read (unless he’s failed to do his homework, not entirely out of the question) show that his version of Brexit will cause the South East economy to be five per cent smaller.

He doesn’t care about this country – if he did, he wouldn’t do this – and he’s prepared to lie to cover that up.

What does that mean in the real world?

It means thousands of people out of work.

It means less money for schools and hospitals.

It means a worse future for your kids.

People who have a stereotypical view of the South East, and so think that Brighton and the surrounding area can simply “take the hit” of Brexit are, as I’m sure you know, wrong.

The South East is an area with real challenges – Brexit put the boot into somewhere which isn’t well placed to take it.

One in ten houses have no savings or investments.

About a quarter of kids in Brighton are living in poverty.

The region has the highest fuel poverty gap in the country.

In areas aside from Brexit, you can’t trust the Tories either.

They’ve promised 40 new hospitals.

In fact we’ll get six upgraded hospitals.

They lied about homelessness, saying it was ten times smaller than it actually was (of course, you or I would be fired if we did something like this at our job).

They said they are going to reverse school cuts which have left some schools unable to function.

But in fact their plans will still leave schools short.

Of course they can’t be trusted to deliver for working people, you might say.

Could we really ever expect the party of Thatcher, Rees-Mogg and billionaires (a third of whom have given the Tories money) to deliver for us?

One last Tory lie I’d like to tell you about, just in case you still think this a party that can be trusted to deliver Brexit or stand up for ordinary people.

The Tories say they’re looking out for everyone.

But that’s a sham, a lie designed just to win votes.

How do I know that?

The Prime Minister’s top right hand man, Dominic Cummings, has been filmed saying the following: “People think– and by the way I think most people are right – ‘the Tory party is run by people who basically don’t care about people like me’.”

I know a lot of Tory MPs and I am sad to say the public is basically correct.

Tory MPs largely do not care about these poorer people.

They don’t care about the NHS.

Those words speak for themselves.
