A SANDWICH shop was blocked off by police after a vicious robbery.

A man is reported to have threatened Subway staff with a broken bottle as he demanded they hand over money from the till.

He then made off from the store in Queens Road, Brighton, with a "small amount of cash".

Police say the suspect is white, aged between 25 and 30, about 5ft 10in tall and of medium build.

He had short blond facial hair and was wearing a navy puffer style jacket.

The incident happened at about 7.25pm yesterday.

A Sussex Police spokesman said "forensics officers attended the scene and enquiries are ongoing".

The Argus:

After the incident tape surrounded the front of the Subway store and two officers were stationed outside the door.

A police car was also parked on the kerb nearby at 8.30pm yesterday.

A passerby said: "I don't know what happened but it must have been relatively serious for police to block off the whole shop like that and leave two officers keeping watch."

Sussex Police were contacted for comment at 9.12am today.

A response was received shortly after 1pm.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 1189 of 28/10."
