AN ELDERLY driver was taken to hospital after he ploughed into a metal bollard.
Police and ambulance crews attended the scene outside the Congress Thetare in Eastbourne.
Police said only one vehicle was involved and the driver was a 90-year-old man.
The Vauxhall hatchback was left with a crumpled bumper where it had hit the metal post and debris was scattered across the road.
A force spokesman said: "He was taken to hospital by ambulance but suffered no injuries and this was just for a check up."
The crash, which damaged the bollard, happened in Compton Street, Eastbourne, at the junction with Wilmington Square shortly before 4pm.
The scene was cleared by 5.40pm.
