BACKPACKER Amelia Bambridge is still missing in Cambodia, three days after she was last seen.

Volunteers set up a search party today to scour the area  - but they have found no trace of the 21-year-old from Worthing.

It was reported locally that the search had been called off for the day.

Amelia, from Worthing, is on a gap year and was last seen by travelling companions at a beach party in Koh Rong at 3am on Wednesday.

Her worried mother took an emergency flight to the island today to join a search party of concerned locals and police.

Posting online, traveller Laura Li, who is organising searches on the island, said at 8pm local time: “We covered a lot of ground with the searches today but unfortunately Amelia is still missing.

“Reports that a body has been found are false to my knowledge and we will be resuming the search again tomorrow morning in the same manner as today.

“There are still lots of places to look so we want to ask anyone that’s free to help again and meet at Runaways at 7.30am tomorrow to pick up where we had to leave off today.

“It was hard work out there and anyone helping needs to be prepared for that.

“Hope to see you in the morning.”

Amelia, who was travelling alone, was due to check out of her youth hostel at noon yesterday to leave the island later in the afternoon with a friend.

But ten hours later, at 10pm local time, her mother Linda was told by the hostel’s manager that her daughter had “been declared officially missing”.

The Argus:

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said: “We are assisting the family of a British woman who has been reported missing in Cambodia and are in close contact with the Cambodian police.”

Amelia's handbag, which had her purse, phone and bank cards in it, was found on the beach after a party held on Wednesday night. Her passport is still at the hostel, the Nest Beach Club.

It is understood there are no lights from the beach to the Nest Beach Club, which is 40 minutes away. The area is also thickly forested.

Her mother is hoping that Amelia, a former student at Bhasvic in Hove, got "lost on her way back" and the search party will be able to find her.

It is her first time travelling on her own.
