A VEGAN fast food chain is rolling out a new range of vegan kebabs.

What The Pitta in East street, Brighton, is introducing gyros – a Greek dish usually made from meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie.

A spokeswoman for the chain said: “We are thrilled to announce the launch of vegan gyros into our Brighton branch on Monday, November 18.”

It follows the successful launch of vegan gyros into the Camden branch earlier this year.

The spokeswoman said the move was “just the latest in some exciting moves for What The Pitta in 2019”.

The chain is already famed for its unique vegan kebabs, made with non-GMO soy pieces marinated in a blend of secret spices with handmade bread, homemade hummus, tzatziki and fresh salads.

It was also the first to launch vegan nuggets into the UK earlier this year.

What The Pitta started in London three years ago and it now has four locations in Boxpark Croydon, Boxpark Shoreditch, Camden and Brighton.

The new £7.50 vegan gyros will be loaded with soya pieces marinated in the company’s signature secret spice blend, vegan tzatziki, tomato, fries and a sprinkle of oregano, all

wrapped in authentic, hand-made pitta bread.

Other items on the What The Pitta menu include a variety of “purse-friendly meal deals” and plant-based options such as doner kebab, doner chip box, mezze box, homemade falafel wraps and baklava.

Last week Brighton and Hove was revealed as the most vegan and vegetarian friendly city in the UK.

Research showed the city has 38 meat-free restaurants for 139,001 residents. That’s one for every 3,658 people.

Money comparison site finder.com conducted the research in response to more and more Brits eating fewer animal products, with vegetarian and vegan diets becoming increasingly popular.

The research found that in the UK, about 6.5 million Brits choose a meat-free diet daily, with vegetarian and vegan lifestyles now

the most popular choices among younger generations.
