RAMPAGING youths on bikes stormed an Asda and terrorised customers.
The gang of about ten boys rode into the supermarket at Brighton Marina on Sunday, bumping into shoppers, hurling abuse at staff and running riot near the tills.
Security rushed to control the commotion and made desperate attempts to get the boys off the bikes during the incident, which happened at about 3.30pm.
Shopper Sarah Lewis, who was with her six-year-old daughter, witnessed the scenes.
She said: “It was quite a shock as a lad on a bike cycled through a checkout further down the store and staff tried to tackle him.
“There was a noise from the shop side and I looked up from packing our bags.
“I saw more and more boys on bikes being tackled by staff as they were trying to ride through the check-outs.”
Ms Lewis said one boy hurled abuse at a disabled customer.
She said: “The last one came right next to us and cycled into a woman using sticks.
“He started yelling abuse at her to get out of the way.
“I was worried for her safety as well as my six-year-old daughter, who was thankfully out of their way.
“It all happened so quickly.
“Everyone looked shocked and surprised.”
Ms Lewis went on Twitter to alert the Asda service team.
It replied, reassuring shoppers and apologising for the trouble.
It said: “I’m sorry that you experienced this
“I’ve called through to the store manager this morning and they have informed me that they are aware of this and understand how terrible and shocking it is.”
It is understood there were no reported injuries.
An Asda spokesman told The Argus: “We are pleased that none of our customers were harmed at our Brighton Marina store on Sunday afternoon.
“However we do not tolerate this unacceptable behaviour in our stores.
“We are proud that our colleagues acted quickly to remove the trespassers from the store within a matter of minutes to ensure our customers were not disrupted for too long.
“However we would again like to apologies for the inconvenience.”
