THE council is looking for landlords to house refugees.

Brighton and Hove City Council is hoping the private sector can work with it to provide homes for “some of the world’s most vulnerable refugees”.

The city has already taken 13 Syrian households as part of the national Vulnerable Person’s Resettlement Scheme.

Councillor Nancy Platts, leader of the council, said: “It must be a terrifying experience to be forced to flee your home and end up in a foreign country.

“At the same time in need of a new home, a new job and to have to do it all in a new and unfamiliar language.

“I’m proud that the people of our city have extended the hand of friendship to refugees and that Brighton and Hove has become a City of Sanctuary.”

The Government funds local authorities for refugees arriving here through this scheme, which pays for support to them to settle in a new country, including helping the children to be able to settle in local schools.
