THE South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty group (SNARL) has been recording and investigating the attacks in the area to raise awareness of the threat of the “Brighton Cat Killer”.

A spokeswoman said there had been more than 24 confirmed cases in the city that have been attributed to the killer.

After police announced an arrest had been made in connection with the killings, the group responded.

A spokesman said: “We are very pleased that Sussex Police has been investigating the series of cat stabbings (Operation Diverge) in Brighton and have made an arrest.

“But the man has not been charged so before everyone breathes a sigh of relief, the killer could still be out there.

“It is important to re-iterate that the stabbings that have been taking place in Brighton - in particularly the BN1 3, BN1 4, BN1 5 and BN1 6 areas are not the work of the “UK Animal Killer” whom we are actively investigating.

“The Modus Operandi is entirely different.

“Keep postering, leafleting, raising awareness and keep cats in as much as possible. Cats have been stabbed in the late afternoon and early evening too.”

SNARL is one of several groups who have actively campaigned to find the “Brighton Cat Killer”.

The Brighton Animal Protection Activists was set up by the owner of a cat called Samson, who was stabbed and only survived after two “life threatening operations”.

The group’s Facebook page is followed by more than 680 people.

The group’s founder has also started a petition on change.org called “Find the Brighton Cat Killer” which has been signed more than 500 times.

It states: “There have been way too many cat mutilations in Brighton. We need to find the person doing this and put an end to these senseless killings.”
