A CAR fire caused parts of the A23 to close this evening.
The hatchback burst into flames on the northbound carriageway at the Bolney A272 junction.
Part of the road was closed while emergency services attended.
Sussex Roads Police and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were on the scene.
Pictures taken by the police show thick, black smoke billowing from the car which was fully alight.
Another taken after the fire was put out shows the charred wreckage.
The car has been removed and no injuries have been reported.
Police said: “We attended a car fire on A23 Bolney northbound this evening. Car has been removed. Car put out by fire service. No injuries. Highways on scene treating the road surface.”
