A TORY activist has been banned from the party after sending abusive emails to an Sussex MP.
David Proudfoot, 74, praised Enoch Powell’s “rivers of blood” speech and compared immigrants to a “swarm of locusts”.
He sent emails to his Wealden MP Nusrat Ghani, who was born in Kashmir and grew up in Birmingham.
In one email, which copied in Number 10 Downing Street, farmer Mr Proudfoot said: “Should we allow immigrants to be elected to our Parliament?
“Do we not have 650 men and women of heritable British people that are intelligent enough to run our country?”
His comments were condemned by the MP.
She told The Argus: “Racism, Islamophobia or hate speech have no place in the Conservative Party.
“As a party, we are clear that discrimination or abuse of any kind is wrong and will not be tolerated and I am pleased we have taken action against such disgusting behaviour.”
Ms Ghani has been the MP since 2015 and serves as a transport minister for the Government.
According to a report in The Guardian, in June 2017 Mr Proudfoot wrote: “Immigrants coming here think they have won the lottery but they rarely integrate… We finish with ghettos like little Pakistans.
“Can anyone say that Enoch Powell wasn’t right with his ‘rivers of blood’ speech?”
He also reportedly said: “It is widely accepted that the country is being dragged down by undisciplined immigrants and the British people demand a resolution.
“Should we allow immigrants to be elected to our Parliament?”
He denied holding racist views.
But in a sharp riposte on Twitter, Ms Ghani posted: “Bloody immigrants.
“Coming over here, taking our jobs, getting elected to public office twice (thank you voters of wonderful Wealden) and then serving in Government...!
“And there’s more to come as I mentor BAME [black, Asian and minority ethnic] Tory candidates. The more the merrier. Get in touch if you want support.”
Wealden Conservative Association chairman Toby Illingworth said Ms Ghani had the party’s full support in the constituency that covers Hailsham, Uckfield, and Crowborough.
He told The Argus: “We utterly condemn what he was saying. This is our MP and she is doing a great job.
“This sort of abuse is utterly unacceptable, that’s why we took action to expel him.”
