A TEAM of riot-trained prison staff were placed on standby after a disturbance at an immigration centre.
A detainee tried to kill himself and another was found to have hidden a razor blade in his mouth.
The first person was treated by healthcare staff and the second was examined.
Following this about 20 detainees at Brook House immigration centre, near Gatwick Airport, refused to listen to the instructions of staff.
Two detainees climbed onto netting during the disorder which started in mid-afternoon.
Brook House holds up to 508 adult male asylum seekers, illegal immigrants and foreign national offenders.
The trouble was resolved without the riot-trained team being used at the centre.
This is to be the subject of an independent inquiry following allegations from 2017 that detainees were mistreated by staff.
A G4S spokesperson said: “Our team responded to a contained indiscipline at Brook House Immigration Removal Centre on Monday involving a small number of detainees.
“This has now been resolved.”
